What I watched this week

This week Tesla hosted their annual investor day event and unveiled their greatly-anticipated Master Plan Part 3. If you’re not familiar with part 1 and part 2, here’s a quick catch up.

Master Plan Part 1 - Published in 2006 and has been 100% fulfilled after 10 years. Build a sports car, then take the money to invest towards building a more affordable car, then take that money to invest towards building a more affordable car, all the while providing zero emission electric power generation options.

Master Plan Part 2 (Deux) - Published in 2016 and has been 50% fulfilled. Create solar roofs with battery storage, expand electric vehicle product line to address all major segments, and develop a self-driving car that makes money for you.

Master Plan Part 3 - Presented on March 1, 2023 and has been 25% fulfilled. Tesla unveiled plans on how to transition the entire world to sustainable energy.

By their calculation, if they are able to increase production as outlined in their presentation by 2030, the world will be 100% sustainable by 2050. There is no company in the world that is currently thinking at this scale.

Tesla energy (solar and battery storage) will eventually grow larger than their auto business. They’ll also build heat pumps to replace inefficient home HVACs. Electric boats and airplanes are coming and are the last piece of the puzzle to solve.
